Rotation Description:
The Medicine Clerkship at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center is a required six week inpatient rotation intended for pharmacy students to obtain experience and achieve competency as entry level practitioners. The rotation provides direct patient care experiences that will allow students to learn how to obtain patient information from chart reviews, initiate and monitor drug therapies, and provide drug information to other health care professionals. Students will attend daily morning Family Practice Medicine rounds and noon conferences for the entire six weeks. Students will participate and attain competency in the management of pharmacy-regulated therapies, including aminoglycosides, vancomycin, anticoagulation (heparin and warfarin), total parenteral nutrition, and others. At the end of the rotation, students will complete a 30-40 minute presentation, and/or a 3-10 page paper.
