Description of Academic/Research Interests:
Using a combination of behavioral and neurochemical approaches, our laboratory is interested in determining the role of the neuropeptide orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and its receptor, the opioid receptor-like (ORL-1) receptor, in:

(1)  Cocaine sensitization
(2)  Buprenorphine's actions to alter pain perception and the function of the mesolimbic dopaminergic reward circuitry.
(3)  Opioid tolerance

We are also interested in determining the role of endogenous opioid peptides/receptors system in stress-mediated increases in drug use and abuse.
